Frequently Asked Questions

About London Bicycle Tours

1. What is the London Bicycle Tour Company (LBTC)?
Established in 1991, the London Bicycle Tour Company has been helping visitors discover London by bike for more than three decades. We have built a reputation for friendly service, quality equipment, and memorable cycling experiences.
We offer a variety of guided bike tours throughout London, combining sightseeing, local history, and a fun, active way to explore the city. We also offer bike rentals/hires, giving visitors and locals the freedom to explore London at their own pace. London bicycle advocate for biking/cycling in London since 1991.

2. Where do your tours take place?
Our tours take place throughout London. We prioritise scenic cycling routes, beautiful parks, riverside paths, and quieter streets wherever possible.
Please keep in mind that some sections may require cycling on public roads and sharing the road with motor vehicles.

3. What types of tours do you offer?
We offer a variety of guided bike tours and walking tours throughout London, designed to suit different interests and experience levels.
Our bike tours include sightseeing routes featuring London's most famous landmarks, as well as more relaxed rides through parks and charming backstreets.
Our walking tours offer a slower-paced way to explore the city on foot with an experienced local guide.
Whether you want to see London's iconic attractions or discover hidden gems, we have a tour to suit your interests.

4. Which bike tour is best for me?
If it's your first time visiting London, we recommend the Classic Gold Tour or the Total E-London Tour. Both are excellent ways to discover the city's main attractions.
If you're interested in a combination of history and modern London, the Love London Tour is a great choice.
For something a little less touristy but still rich in history and local character, consider the Original E-Bike Tour or the Destination London Tour.
Looking for something different? Try our Sunset Tour or book a Private Tour, which is especially suitable for families traveling with children under 10.

5. Do I have to join a guided tour?
Not at all! If you'd prefer to explore London independently, we also offer flexible bike rental/hire options.
You can choose between joining one of our guided experiences or renting a bike and discovering the city and biking in London at your own pace. The choice is yours!

6. Do I need to be very fit to join a tour?
No. Our tours are designed to be relaxed and suitable for most fitness levels. We ride at a comfortable pace and make regular stops along the way.

7. Do you take breaks during the tours?
Yes! All of our tours include at least one stop for refreshments and restroom facilities.

8. Is a bike tour the best way to see London?
We certainly think so! As London's longest-running bike tour company, operating since 1991, we believe cycling is one of the most enjoyable ways to experience the city.
Instead of sitting in traffic on a sightseeing bus or traveling underground on the Tube, you'll get closer to London's famous landmarks, explore quieter backstreets, enjoy some light exercise, and connect with your guide and fellow travellers along the way.
It's a fun, active, and memorable way to experience more of London.

9. Can I join a tour if I don't know how to ride a bike?
Unfortunately, our guided bike tours aren't suitable for guests who cannot ride a bicycle. All participants must be confident riding a bike, including on public roads and in urban traffic.

Additional Cycling Safety FAQ

96. Is it safe for tourists to cycle in London?
We understand that visitors from the United States may have questions about cycling safety in a busy city like London, particularly if they're unfamiliar with riding on the left-hand side of the road.
We believe cycling is a wonderful way to experience London, especially when exploring with an experienced local guide and following carefully planned routes.
One of the biggest advantages of joining an LBTC tour is having a knowledgeable guide who understands London's streets, traffic patterns, cycle routes, and potential hazards. Our guides help you navigate unfamiliar areas, anticipate road conditions, and make informed decisions throughout the ride.
Experienced Guides and Carefully Planned Routes
Since 1991, we've guided more than 100,000 people through London. Our experience has helped us develop routes that prioritise quieter backstreets, dedicated cycle lanes, parks, and scenic paths wherever possible.
Although some sections require us to share public roads with motor vehicles, we take particular care when navigating busier intersections and connecting different parts of the route.
In some situations, your guide may ask the group to dismount and walk their bikes across a busy road or through a challenging section.
Mandatory Helmets and Safety Briefings
All participants on our guided bike tours are required to wear a helmet, which we provide free of charge.
Before setting off, your guide will give you a safety briefing covering the basics of riding in London, including road awareness, traffic conditions, and what to expect during the tour.
Our guides are there to support you throughout the experience and help you feel as comfortable as possible.
What About Cycling on the Left?
For visitors from the United States, one of the biggest differences is that traffic in the UK travels on the left-hand side of the road.
This may take a little getting used to, which is another reason we recommend joining a guided tour rather than navigating unfamiliar streets on your own.
Your guide will explain the basics and help you understand how to navigate London's roads and intersections safely.
Is a Guided Bike Tour Right for Me?
Biking through London is an enjoyable and rewarding experience, allowing you to see more of the city than you could on foot while remaining outdoors and close to the sights.
However, cycling in a major city does require awareness and confidence. Although our guides take every reasonable precaution, cycling always carries some inherent risk, and we cannot guarantee that accidents will never happen.
If you're comfortable riding a bicycle and are open to experiencing London from a different perspective, we'd love to show you around.
With experienced guides, carefully planned routes, well-maintained bikes, and a strong focus on safety, the London Bicycle Tour Company is here to help make your London cycling experience memorable for all the right reasons.
